Experienced professionals. Skilled teachers. A calm, purposeful space to learn.
If you’re thinking about joining a course at MAD, you might be wondering:
“Who will be teaching me — and how do I know they’re any good?”
It’s a fair question. You’re investing your time, your energy, and maybe your confidence. You want to know you’ll be in good hands.
At MAD, our tutors are working professionals — actors, writers, directors, and coaches — with real industry experience and a track record of helping adults grow their craft.
What all MAD tutors have in common
1. Professional experience
All our tutors are active (or recently active) in their field. That means you’ll be learning from people who’ve:
- Performed on stage or screen
- Directed full productions
- Written for radio, theatre, or TV
- Coached actors and professionals at different stages of their journey
2. Clarity and structure in teaching
Great performers aren’t always great teachers. That’s why we choose people who can:
- Make complex ideas simple
- Run sessions with clear pace and purpose
- Guide individuals and groups with care and attention
We don’t follow a one-size-fits-all method. But we do insist on clarity, structure, and a supportive learning environment.
3. The right tone for adult learners
Most of our students are adults in their 20s to 70s — often returning to learning after a break, or trying something new for the first time.
So we choose tutors who are:
- Warm, respectful, and calm
- Encouraging without being overbearing
- Confident guiding you out of your comfort zone — without pressure
They know how to create an environment where you can experiment, learn, and surprise yourself — without pretence or judgement.
Do tutors stay the same each term?
Not always. We assign tutors based on the course content and focus. Different tutors have different specialisms.
This means you benefit from different voices, styles and perspectives — helping you grow as a well-rounded actor or writer.
Some tutors return every term. Others step away for professional work — like directing a show or filming — and return later in the year.
We have a strong pool of skilled and experienced tutors — and you can always ask us who is leading your course before you start.
Do you ever bring in guest tutors?
Yes. Occasionally, we invite visiting professionals to lead:
- One-off workshops
- Specialist sessions (e.g. voice work, audition prep, camera technique)
These are experienced, working professionals — offering a fresh perspective and practical insight.
Where can I find out who’s teaching my course?
Each listing on our upcoming courses page includes the tutor’s name (where confirmed).
If you’d like to check who’s teaching a specific course, drop us a message. Sometimes because of the last minute nature of the industry, we won’t be able to confirm which tutor is teaching which course until a few days before the courses start.
Final word
We take teaching seriously.
It’s not just about the professional credits of our tutors — it’s about how who can help you grow. That means tutors who know the craft, know how to teach it, and know how to bring out your best.
