The BMW M3 was created from the Bavarian manufacturer's desire to own a licensed FIA racing car of the Group A. To obtain approval for the competitive model, BMW was required to produce at least 5,000 pieces of a civilian version. In 1985, M3 was presented in Frankfurt and production began the following spring. As vehicle received special features such as widened fenders, a rear spoiler and a redesigned rear window to obtain an air permeability coefficient of 0.33.
