Paul is a writer and director with an extensive background in theatre (Soho, National) and film (Channel 4). Most recently he directed Macca and Beth on the main stage at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre and Offered Up which had a four week run at the Royal Court Studio. Paul has also directed shorts for Channel 5, BAFTA North and various independent companies.
He co-founded the new writing theatre company Liverpool Lunchtime Theatre (LLt) which developed new work and new writers in the city for 20 years from 1982 – 2002. He has directed numerous pieces of new work for the stage.
Paul has been resident playwright at Essex University, Soho Theatre and Action Transport Theatre Company and worked as a literary manager, script editor (North West Playwrights, TAPS) and theatre director (Liverpool Everyman and Unity Theatres).
He has taught playwriting over the years to a variety of students – in primary schools in Cheshire, universities (Liverpool and LJMU), secondary schools in Romania, Czech Republic and Finland, for Write Now! at the Everyman and Soho Theatre in London.
He is a member of the Writers Guild of Great Britain.
