If you’ve ever asked yourself this — even just quietly — you’re not alone. And you’re not wrong for wondering.
Maybe it’s been decades since you did anything creative.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to act but never quite had the time.
Maybe you’re just not sure you’d fit in.
Let’s be clear: No, you’re not too old. Not even close.
Who actually joins acting classes at MAD?
All sorts of people. In their 20s, yes — but also in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.
Some are trying acting for the very first time.
Others are picking it up again after raising kids, changing careers or retiring.
Some come for the craft. Others come for the confidence. Most just want to try something new.
They’re not chasing stardom. They’re here to learn, grow, and surprise themselves — often after years of putting it off.
You don’t need to be “the best” — just open to learning
This isn’t drama school. There are no auditions, no pressure, and no need to ‘prove’ anything.
Our Acting for Beginners course is designed for people with zero experience, at any age.
- Build confidence, voice and creativity step by step
- Learn practical tools like movement, voice and character work
- Collaborate with others — in a kind, grown-up environment
And yes — people in their 40s, 50s and 60s often thrive. Because they bring real life, emotional depth, and often… a sharper sense of humour.
Still wondering if you’ll feel out of place?
- You won’t be the oldest person in the room
- You won’t be expected to perform on day one
- You won’t be dropped in the deep end
We create a calm, low-pressure space where people can start from scratch — and enjoy the process.
Why do people over 40 join?
- “I wanted to do something just for me.”
- “I’d always been curious but never had the nerve.”
- “I needed a confidence boost after a hard few years.”
- “It just looked fun — and I finally said yes.”
If any of that rings true, you’re in the right place.
How to get started
Acting for Beginners runs regularly — both weekday evenings and Friday daytimes. It’s £99 for 8 weeks, 2 hours per week. No experience needed. No pressure. Just space to try.

In summary:
You’re not too old. You’re not too late. And you’re definitely not the only one.
