If you’re serious about making a living as a writer, this is where you start.
Writing for long-running TV and radio drama is one of the most consistent sources of paid work in the UK writing industry. Most A-list screenwriters got their start in Soap or Continuing Drama – and with the right skills, so can you.
This intermediate-level course will show you how it’s done. Over 10 weeks, you’ll begin to develop the craft needed to thrive in a professional writers’ room: fast-paced story development, strong structural instincts, and the ability to write compelling scenes and dialogue to tight deadlines.
You’ll also gain insider knowledge of how soaps and continuing dramas are structured, commissioned, and produced.
The course is taught by Karen Brown, a multi-award-winning screenwriter whose credits span TV, Radio and theatre. Karen has written over multiple TV episodes, Radio 4 dramas (including Sherbet Dolls and The Camel Hospital), and created award winning stage plays. Her episode The Rain Has Stopped for BBC One’s Moving On was RTS-nominated for Best Performance.
Karen brings not only extensive real-world experience, but decades of teaching insight to help serious writers step up to the next level.
There will be a showcase of work at the end of the course.
This is an intermediate course. Writers must have attended a beginners course or have experience.
